On March 2, 2020, the Honourable Deb Schulte, Minister of Seniors, visited PICS to officially announce the Surrey Intercultural Seniors Social Inclusion Partnership (SISSIP) Network project as well as funding for over $9 million of investments in seniors in British Columbia through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The event was attended by over 70 people – the general public, PICS board of directors, staff and management, the SISSIP Network Partners, City council and Mayor Doug McCallum, and Local Members of Parliament – Sukh Dhaliwal, Randeep Saria and Ken Hardie.

The announcement was followed by an interactive session between the Minister and clients from the PICS senior residents, Assisted Living Facility, Intercultural Logistics and Transportation Operations Project for Older Workers 55+ program and the United Way’s Humjoli group. The event was a great opportunity for seniors to learn about the new initiatives taking place in their city to help reduce social isolation and help them become more engaged in their communities.
