Credits, refunds offered following spring program cancellations

I am so happy to share that the Kent Street Centre Dance committee has given a generous donation to the White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank. Thank you so much to this Kent Street Activity Group. The dance committee is responsible for co-ordinating weekly Wednesday night dances and monthly Saturday dinner dances. The committee looks forward to resuming dances in the near future. As many of you know, the food bank is in urgent need of financial donations during this very difficult time. To donate please call 604-531-6226.

•White Rock Recreation and Culture department has now decided to cancel all 2020 spring programs. This decision is aligned with the recommendations from the provincial health officer to lower the risk of exposure and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

The spring cancellations include all programs between April 1 and June 30. The City of White Rock will continually evaluate the situation and will provide updates regarding summer programs as we receive more information.

All program registrants will receive full credit refunds automatically to their White Rock Recreation and Culture Account. If you would like to have your credit paid out, please email recreation@whiterockcity.ca and staff will get back to you regarding your refund.

• The Seniors Come Share Society has introduced more support programs for seniors in the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes telephone reassurance calls making sure that isolated seniors stay connected.

If you or someone you know is isolated and in need of a meal, Sheila’s Catering has offered to prepare meals which will then be delivered to vulnerable seniors in the community. For information or to sign up for both of these programs, please call 211.

• The Seniors’ Centre Without Walls program is a telephone-based social interaction service for seniors (55+) living in Surrey and White Rock. Call 604-531-9400 ext 205 or email scww@comeshare.ca for more information.

• A Rocha Farm to Families Program is offering phone call and email check-ins to seniors.
