Connecting Generations (City of Surrey)
The ‘Connecting Generations’ sub-project is a collaborative effort between partners in the community to engage seniors and youth. The project allows for open dialogue between the generations and focuses on supporting important community initiatives and issues that are important to both generations.
The project aims to:
- Conduct focus groups and open dialogue between youth and seniors
- Lead in the recruitment and initial facilitation of action committee groups, identify barriers and needs; intersect youth and senior viewpoints
- Develop and implement a framework of Best Practices to share with community partners.

Surrey SHARES: S-speaking H-heartfelt A-achievement R-resilience E-empowerment S-stories (Semiahmoo House Society)
Surrey SHARES is a program dedicated to improving people’s well-being through Life Coaching and Storytelling. Participants will engage in goal-setting and personal growth exercises with a certified Life Coach. Participants will use technology to communicate and record their progress. The program culminates with all participants telling a personal story which is recorded for their use and to share with family, friends and the community. Seniors Centre Without Walls (Seniors Come Share Society)
The Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW) is a great way to get connected with other older adults across Surrey, all from the comfort of your own home! The program offers brief 30-40 minute interactive telephone conference sessions where you can laugh and socialize, learn new skills, and create new connections. Even better yet, the program is completely free to participate in! The Seniors’ Centre Without Walls is available for all seniors 55+ living in Surrey or White Rock. Programs are primarily delivered in English, but there are plans to launch programs in multiple languages in the future!
Sources Community Hub (Sources)
The sub-project by Sources, Community Seniors Hub is presently on hold until the COVID 19 situation is resolved. We are looking at adapting the Community Seniors Hub programs and services so they follow social distancing protocols.

Seniors Engagement Through Technology – S.E.T.T. (PICS)
The Seniors Engagement Through Technology (SETT) project is an initiative dedicated to educating and supporting seniors in use of technology to enhance social connections and engagement within the community and their personal network. The focus of SETT is to ensure seniors receive accessible technology support and training that is inclusive and simplified for their understanding. The project has the following initiatives:
- Seniors Tech Helpline
- Tech 101 for Seniors
- Tech Savvy Seniors
- Kuch Seekho, Kuch Seekhao (Learn Some, Teach Some)
Seniors will also receive hardware (iPads) through a loaning program to be able to participate in the project. The courses that teach technology to seniors and Trainers will be provided with manuals and other useful resources to learn and engage effectively through technology.

The role of the Action Committee is to provide advice and direction to the project and its sub-project initiatives being implemented in South Surrey and across Surrey.
Members & Meetings
Members are residents of the neighbourhood, work with seniors or are seniors themselves and have chosen to volunteer with the project for a minimum 1-year term. They are an integral part of the project in providing valuable inputs and direction from their experience and insights.
The South Surrey Neighbourhood Action committee is led by Sources. Regular meetings are held six times a year for approximately two-hour discussions. Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all meetings are now being held on virtual platforms.
